I stopped using Magic Jack 1 day after I started, so I’m just posting this to help others.

They did the same thing to me, and told me the money would be returned and still hasn’t. I am on unemployment and money is tight and now I incured a overdraft cause of them and can’t get in touch with a real person!

I been trying to find out why MagicJack occupies 2 USB Ports (K&J)on my computer? I have tried to contact them but cannot talk to a person that could provide the answer. For my use the product seems to work well and I think it’s worth the price.
You need to clarify. What exactly do you mean? Does the Magic Jack physically block both ports, or are you saying that your computer won’t recognize the other port while MJ is plugged in?
The device physically uses one usb port and creates an additional port or drive (the purpose is unknown to me). In my computer the device is installed on the “X” drive and utilizes the “Y” drive (again, purpose unknown). The device is great to have for several reasons. Customer service has always been available via live “ONLINE” chat only. They are an “Internet Telephone” company as opposed to a Standard type telephone company. If you prefer voice customer service and associated expense then choose a standard company. If you prefer to save money and make free (worldwide to other MJ users) calls then choose MagicJack.

I have one. If you are concerned about billing problems the best solution is to use PayPal and install their browser plug in. You can create one time use credit card number to order with. They can’t charge you beyond that because the card number will never work again. When it is time to renew if you want, generate another one time use card again.

I am unable to make or receive calls from 662-462-5575 nor 662-462-3286. When I dial the numbers, I hear nothing. When they attempt to call me they receive a recording saying this number is not accepting calls!!!!!!!!!! We were able to talk to both of these numbers yesterday and many times before. Bought Magicjack at Best Buy instead of internet a week ago with a gift card. I have 30 days to use and return for refund if not satisfied. So far am about 1/3 satisfied as am able to make long distance + local calls out but can’t receive any. I tried from my land phone and goes to voice mail which is difficult to retrieve. Got response from helptech which had NO reference to my problem. Will work with it a little while longer and if frustration buids instead of diminish it will be returned. Will NOT spend a lot of precious time on it. I can see why MA BELL is not concerned.

I also have problems with MagicKack and can’t find a phone number that has a real person to answer. You said that you were going to mail the product back.
Did you ever get an address to return the hardware? If you did, please send me the address. My first year is up and I can’t renew because I have a new credit card number and their software will not allow me to enter the new number.
I also have money to make international calls that I would like refunded if I can’t renew.
After reading all these problems I’m not sure I want to renew.

Not all area codes are supported. As you didn’t state your area code, I assume you are in a rural area. Choose an area code that is near you or near where you will be calling the most. I am in Florida but I call Tennessee the most. I choose a Nashville area code so that my family there would not have to pay long distance charges to call me.
From reading everyone’s terreble comments about Magic Jack I decided not to get involve with the company. Like most easy things in life…it seems too good to be true.

Well I have used magic jack awhile and its been working fine. I used it on XP,Vista and now Windows 7. Im trying to find away to run it on Linux.Maybe you just need to run the updates for your systems. Id rather pay 19 a year than pay 20-30 a month

I bought the Magic Jack, but now I am afraid to install it. My brother has it and it works great for him.
If it works great for your brother then why are you afraid to install it? Possibly because you are reading all these people’s horror stories? No doubt in my mind that they do not understand the concept of plug and play. It also appears to me that they are all members of the “entitlement” genereation. It is possible that some of these people are trying to use the device on dial up computers. It is for High Speed Internet ONLY. Plug it in, answer a few quetions, save money.

It is for internal USA calls ONLY is why. But you can call other MagicJack users anywhere in the world. They do have International plans available or that are in the works. When all else fails, read the instructions. It states all this in the instructions.
I had this MJ for 9 months worked great then suddenly incoming calls get disconnected after 30-35 seconds and after 2 weeks of frustration. Spent 3 days with there so called top 10 techs and got the same thing told to do. Got now where! Went and bought another dirt cheap, got the same thing. They tried telling me it is my router adding ports changing firewalls along with other crap changes. They would not hear of it being there product. What a piece of junk. Wish they would fix it or stop selling them and refund people there money that already has a number with it!

I think it is a darn shame that Magic Jack had NO LIVE person to help and from what I hear, I am not the only one that needs help. I bought TWO Jacks and when I trid to install the second one on a second computer, your site asked me to find another phone number which is sick. Now only one computer has a line and that one is giving me a problem already and I’ve only had magic jack for ONE DAY!

Worthless piece of dog doo doo That’s being nice. Now, for anyone reading this, you should now know it would be the most foolish thing to buy one of these. Mine kept beeping to the recieving end and kept breaking up. The technical support was a joke and would not help at all if you call the support on the billing phone number. They refer you back to the online tech support! I wish I researched this better before buying the damn thing! DO NOT BUY!!! TELL EVERYONE NOT TO BUY!! The word of mouth internationally will shut them down if everyone tells everyone about their nightmares! Come on everyone. WE are the world. God Bless you all and hope you find better service elsewhere as I will.
I have recently purchased a magic jack and the only problem I have is getting a fax to work. It beats $60 a month for a phone I hardly use!
Seemed to work fine as long as computer was on and MAGIC JACK was left open in task bar. Was not using it, just cell phones and went to cancel with 30 day free trial. Good Luck!!
You need to have kept ALL original packaging including the postage envelope with the bar code in order to do this. Who keeps all this??
Also noted – sound quality (outbound) not good if near the computer. Keep this in mind if you order the product and make sure you keep ALL original packaging if you have any intention of returning the product during their 30 day “FREE” trial.
Regarding Magic Jack. I agree there are problems with the software. I would say complaining to PC Magazine and TMC Communications Solutions (see below for links), plus the FCC (since these companies are named on the Magic Jack page), would really get things moving and changing in the customer service and software areas. My year is just about up and I’m thinking I will not renew. Unfortunately, though I have saved money, there have always been sound quality problems. I have Windows Vista, and two big HDs, 1 external HD, plus 1.5 GB RAM. I do agree putting it on another computer may solve a lot of problems that interfere with the sound quality over the phone. I’ve had many complaints just about that. When you are online and on the phone, these activites interfere with the sound: scrolling, playing songs, opening other files, surfing while talking, reading emails, etc. there is simply no excuse for the company not being be forthcoming about all of that, and they should provide a solution. Most elderly people are not going to buy another computer to use this phone (you also have to buy another home phone to use this if you give up your landline), and they are the population who could most benefit from cutting monthly and long distance costs by using this product.

A friend told me about your service. I was very excited about it. Then I went to your website and the print is TOO SMALL! I am visually handicapped and need to speak with a REAL PERSON–I cannot follow a “chat box”.
