Get ready to LOL.

Which is the easier path?

Bass Ackwards

The religious enjoy asking you to prove a negative

Religion at work through the ages

A child is no more a Christian or a Jew any more than he is a Marxist or a Libertarian. Religious education is indoctrination.

And we all know where *that* wacky theory got us. Sheesh.

So much for faith.

Imagining no religion is to imagine peace.

I must say I am all for freedom of speech, but I find most of your charts, pictures and cartoons very offensive. Comparing religious beliefs to a joke and believing that you are right is equivalent to saying that you are smarter and have greater empathy than the many brilliant scientists, philosophers, professionals, and religious humanitarians that live or have lived throughout history and believe or have believed in the existence of a Creator. Your beliefs, you imply, are based on scientific reasoning, but it is only the science of the last couple of centuries. Science has been evolving for thousands of years. What makes you think we know all there is to know about energy, matter, the universe? Just like we LOL about “old science” based beliefs and theories of say 500 years ago, I am sure a couple of hundred years from now humans will LOL about our current scientific expertise. It is human to have doubts (to be agnostic), I believe it is conceited to have no doubts that there is no God (atheist).
As for your pictures, I find the picture of the babies being labeled atheists gratuitous. Where is your scientific proof? Even using your logic that God was invented by man, then at least some of those babies will come to believe in God.
I find the joke of the pope gettind shot abhorrent.
I find the caption for the little girl-angel praying mean spirited and abusive. Which scientific theory explains “medically unexplainable” cures (miracles) attributed to prayers by the person cured?
I find the cartoon blaming religion for earth’s wars intellectually dishonest. When did the greatest destruction of lives and lack of empathy occurred in the history of the world? When atheists were in control! (Russia, Germany, China, Cambodia).
I still respect your right to your beliefs, I just can’t LOL.
Full respect for your right to your own viewpoint. It’s not surprising that you feel compelled to claim your beliefs as fact. Most religious zealous also find it necessary to pontificate their beliefs as facts. But its the religious extremists go so far as to attack, inflame and belittle the beliefs of those holding different conviction. Perhaps they are so insecure in their own beliefs that they need to coerce others into believing what they believe. Why? Does that give it more credence? It appears that you are employing the tactics of an extremist.
I want to let you guys know that a reply is coming, but it’s going to take some time. I’ve very slow at such things. I’m not ignoring you.
John, are you even aware that your knee-jerk reaction actually supports the ideas of each and every cartoon?
Personally I don’t care which invisible and impotent superhero you choose to supplicate to but the bulletproof pope-mobile is hilarious. Think about it; why should God’s right-hand-man be scared of bullets? Doesn’t that make you wonder even a little bit? I mean really, if the deity is so powerful, then bullets can’t harm the pope and if the deity “wills” the pope to be shot, the tempered glass won’t stop the bullet so wouldn’t it be a bit pointless either way?
Hell yes. HELL yes! These were so great I had to save many to disk. I liked your captions too. “So much for faith!” INDEED.
Nothing fails like prayer!

These are absolutely great. LOLOL
[Some people] do support the ideas of each and every cartoon. LOL
I am also ex-Catholic, and find the image of the bullet proof pope-mobile absolutely hilarious. And yes, nothing fails like prayer. These are a great set for use on Blasphemy Day
Great!

I like your energy and conviction. The radicals are the ones who get things done on this planet. That said, I have couple of ideas on the subject.
About Prayer: I’ll start with a quote from the Phish song “Bug” – Trey Anastasio says “Nothing I see can be taken from me”.
I’ve become a believer in the ability of the human mind alone (without physical interaction) to share in the creation of it’s own world. It’s proven that thought has real power. The way we choose to believe or interpret what we perceive plays a huge role in what is created. Prayer can be a powerful tool in visualizing what we wish to create. Everything starts with a thought. I won’t attack prayer as just “wishful thinking” until until I understand it better.
Religions – like all human institutions they’re infested with selfishness and reek of corruption. They seem to thrive by claiming “specialness”. The idea seems to be, I secure my place in heaven by making sure that everyone else burns in hell. Over time, one finds out that we all do this – not just religions. Religions are a macrocosm of a basic human frailty – fear.
We rely on the 5 senses to teach us what is real. It’s easy to listen to those five senses, at the exclusion of all else, giving the human ego the role of supreme interpreter. However, only when that ego transcends its own selfishness can it be trusted to tell us the truth.
That brings us to forgiveness. Forgiveness is at the heart of what was taught be all the great spiritual teachers. The rule seems to be that by forgiving each other, we forgive ourselves. Over the years, this idea has become encumbered with countless rules and regulations designed to create and protect specialness.
And I’ll end with a Buffalo Springfield quote, “There’s something happening here, what it is ain’t exactly clear
….”
My reply grew to such a length that it demanded its own blog post. I hope it makes some semblance of sense.
