    I received my first months credit card billing. 2-19-2010 for $73.90 a second charge of $3.00 for a total of $76.90. WHAT’S going on with these charges. I agreed to a one year billing of $3.33 per each month for one year. Someone must explain these extra charges soon or I will stop payment.

    MagicJack is not as simple as the i-2-3 steps described.

    at point of filling out registration, i attempted to click on my state, when getting my phone number assigned.
    the state dissapeared from the list after clicking on it (NH).
    after several attempts, i clicked on mass, and was able to get a number assigned, that is a mass #.

    i now get an e-mail back, that my registration is not valid?

    Ive talked to online live reps 4 times and got cut off 4 times. I called twice and got cut off twice..what does a person have to do to talk to someone. I have a 5 year plan and am still getting a pop up box that wants to know if I want to renew because my subscription has expired.. Whats with your service?

    I purchased the 5-year plan on 5-25-08 and at that time there was no local numbers for me, I was given a number that is about 200 miles away. Well they now have my area code BUT still no local numbers. My next door neighbor would have to pay a TOLL to call me. I was PROMISED I would have a number within 6 months and now 2-years later I still have no number I can use. The closest number available is 100 miles north and a toll for ALL my friends. 99% of my calls are within 40 miles of home. This has been a waste of $$$ and they offer no help. I would not mind of my time would be adjusted to replace time lost, but they say this can’t be done. At this point I would tell anyone that this is the biggest rip-off going.

    I originally signed up for one (1) year. It has not been a year that you have cut off my service @ 607-241-6773. Today (4/17/10) I have put in another $69.95 for 5 more years and the phone is still dead. Please call me @ 607-723-7223 & let me know what you are doing with my first year & the new $69.85 payment. It is possible that this $69.95 got charged twice on my card. Please call me immediately so the issues can be resolved. I hav anothe magic jack & I have not checed it of used it in a while. If you do not resolve these problems, please refund my monies & I will stop using the Magic Jack. Thank you.

    I bought 3 magic jacks one year ago and none of them work. I prepaid 5 years for each and after one year my service has expired. One of the devices reports it is downloading files and then just vanishes and never starts.

  • I believe this magicjack thing is a total scam now. i will do my best to bring this to public attentions. i will have these issues as a topic on my internet live broadcasting show. on the magicjack website, they don’t have their contact numbers on there. i called the 1-281-404-1551 number and i keep hearing a male voice message repeating over and over again, and no representative pick up the phone to talk to me .
    DO NOT BUY MAGIC JACK !

    I had signed up for a 5 year plan back in 2007, I used it very infrequently (because I wasnt crazy about the reception) until 2008. I just tried to use it again an operator said my subscription expired in 2009. So they had to help me get back in, which I’m still trying to do.
    Its not easy to find a phone number to call them, seems to only be online help. They do try to help once you go to online help, doesnt mean your problem will be resolved though at first.

    I purchased magic jack in dec 2008 bought 2yrs package I stupidly used it for my business,one day in April 2010 I call my MJ phone number and it has been disconnected when I reach the chat people they gave me the round around for 2 days.They told me that I was suppose to re register my upgrade no one call me as obliviouslly they had my phone number no one email me they just turn off my phone I tried to reinstate they tell me they can’t give me the same number there is no referral so now all of my customer must think I’m out of business.I want to file a class action suite against MJ.they just ruin a 10yrs business in one day and the worst part is they couldn’t resolve their problem and they didn’t care.any taker can email me at awesomebraids@yahoo.com

    Do not get Magic Jack, when your time is up they will not let you know and they will just disconnect you, the website even says that your account is fine and then all of a sudden you will have no more phone and you cannot get your same number back! EVER!!!

    I received my MJ yesterday and have been considering installing it. My first question was “How do I port my current phone number onto MJ”? After reading a goodly portion of the remarks stated previously – I guess the answer is that I don’t – can’t – no way be able to use my old phone number. So that pretty much settles what I will be doing. MJ goes back (all three of them).

    My first indication that I probably wasn’t going to get along with MJ was that my account password wouldn’t work. Neither did the next two that were sent to me. And I wasn’t readily able to find a contact number. The number listed for MJ says “This number has not been activated.”

    I am in Alberta. I had made a trip to the US on business. Used my Visa in the US and had the Visa fraud squad in a tizzy because I had not notified them of my travels. They blocked my Visa until I spoke with them and confirmed my US purchases. Knowing that it is possible to BLOCK a credit card is useful. It stops anyone who has the number (i.e. MJ) from putting charges on it (including me). Sometimes it is also useful to cut it in half and report it lost. You will be without a credit card for a week or so but when the new one comes, it will be a different number. So if you need to stop payments – those are two suggestions.

    My MJs are going back and hopefully I will get a communication saying that they have been received and “Sorry that you were not happy with them” – also will need a credit or a payment reversal statement. To date, no charges have gone onto my credit card – so, for me, MJ has been as good as their word – first 30 days free. I will not reactivate my credit card until this is cleared up. And if it does not get resolved, I guess the puppy will get to chew on the credit card . . . . or something. I will try to stay in MJs “good books” because I may just want to use the product on a limited basis some time in the future.

    I could see that a one year MJ contract would be good if you were going on holiday and wanted to call home on a daily basis – it would pay for itself after a few days. So I will compose a polite “thanks but no thanks” note to add to the parcel and stop by the post office.

    Thanks for this site – it has helped me make up my mind about what to do. I suggest that right-up-front you set out additional findings on the known facts, i.e. if your phone exchange is full, you can’t get a number with your own (old) area code. I happen to know that the one that I am in is full so I would get a local number BUT it would have the new area code. Second – THEY assign you a new phone number. et cetera.

    wow !? a whole lotta haters here…I have a magicjack and will admit that when I first tried to set up a Calgary ph# I was left brain confused.. the available phone#’s for 403 were 403-800-xxxx – I could not get past the 800# part and put the USB away for a few days…went back and tried again; agreed to pay $10/yr for a canadian ph# (less than 1/2 the cost of one month of shaw svc)///blah blah blah

    I have ZERO complaints so far … !! voice mail, caller Id (yes it is ph# only but.. if i don’t know the ph# I don’t answer anyhow) portable home ph …

    It will be interesting in a year tho – I did purchase the 5 yr deal.. seems a lot of dissatisfaction here is around ‘renewals’

    Would be ideal to move my shaw ph# to my magicjack – for now; I am informing those that need to know ; we are leaving the monoploy/big box of internet/phone… with or without the dinosaurs !…

    It was working nice only the thing that they were charging for 5 years but after one year they disconnect the service and asking money again but don`t care paid them and continue but now they not disconnect but they disturb my computer
    and when ever I am connecting the device the device changed my XP version and showing some low kind of version(XP version 5.0 and saying this version will not work with this)
    This the problem I am facing and my phone is not working at all.

    BEWARE OF CREDIT CARD PAYMENT. wanted to renew my subscription and after using my credit card the system said invalid however my bank said the charge was made. after speking with MJ help desk “Nigel” told me to do the trasaction again i warned him that i used the card and it was charged but did it again and same problem and my card was charged again. then the chat session just ended and cannot get on to the help desk. the bank said another charged was made on CC. and can only be refunded if MJack emails a confirmation.     I am a Canadian, living in London, Ontario. I recently purchased the majic jack. I had no problems installing, nor have I any complaints about call quality. I have a NYC phone number. One thing that is not mentioned, or at least not where I have seen it…Canadians using an american number cannot call Canadian toll-free numbers.

    My problems started when I tried to purchase a Canadian number, using my prepaid Visa card. I went through mymajicjack, using their online system to order.

    I have been charged twice for the Canadian number…leaving me with a 32 cent balance, and still no Canadian number…and yes, it is $4.95 plus $10.00 for the Canadian number.

    Upon contacting customer service (their joke of customer service, online support), I was told that they had no record of these transactions. (Never mind that I can provide their company information showing to whom the payment was made). I was told that I would be emailed by customer service…I obviously have not been. I was assured that their engineers are working hard on it (seems like a recurring theme…)

    I was also told that since there was no record of an order, these pre-authorized amounts (as I was told) would be removed…and check back with them 3-5 days after receiving my statement…so it seems that I have to wait for up to a month to see what happens.

    It seems that an honest company would be a little more proactive about customer service, and follow through on promises made.

    I am quite seriously considering contacting the American IRS…it seems that the majic jack company charges quite a few credit cards without providing the service being paid for…I guess we’ll see what happens…

    I’m having a problem understanding the way Majic Jack does the accountability for the money they take from your Credit Card…I was told 39.95 + 3.33/month and a 30 day tril before being charged. Well I was charged when I got it. The payment was 179$ + I got a surprise on my next Credit Card statement! I’d like to know why Majic Jack inc is chargi8ng…don’t worry…next payment you won’t be able to get…I’ve blackbooked it to my Credit card company. I’d like this money returned to my CC!!!!!!!!

    I’m also aware of the amount of information travelling about MajickJack, enought to catch some media to cut some marketing you are doing.
