So the new Tracfone I just got (Motorola w376) comes built in with Double Minutes for Life! This “amazing feature” is also available for sale for $50 separately. “Double Minutes for Life” sounds impressive right? Well, if you are a code junkie like me, it’s not worth a penny.
I wasn’t sure how Double Minutes for Life was going to work with promo codes. Turns out it doesn’t.
The first thing I did after receiving my new phone was add a 60-minute card to it. Of course, I used a promo code and turned that 60 minutes into 140 minutes. What do you think appeared on my phone? 140 minutes or 280 minutes?
That’s right grasshopper, just the measly 140 minutes. The 140 was NOT doubled to 280 as I thought it might. I suppose I can accept this considering that I only paid $20 for the original 60-minute card… and I received 140 minutes which obviously is more than double the original face value.
The bottom line is that “Double Minutes for Life” will never kick in if you always use a promo code. And promo codes are free and worth more.

Lately, promo codes are not working anymore. I think tracfone is beginning to cut down on them. Last 2 I used got me nothing & I have always got them to work before getting as much as 50 or more minutes on a code with a 60 minute card. Just for kicks I emailed Tracfone cust support & asked them if I entered my info wrong, with the promo code details, knowing full well I did it right. Cant hurt right? I already got zip. Anyway, I gave them the code number etc. They simply replied that code is no longer valid amist a typical form letter. I had hoped that maybe they would just give me the damn 40 mins the promo was suppose to give but no. Lately I’ve been thinking about switching to net10. You seem to get a whole lot more minutes for the money. And if Tracfone is going to start getting stingy on working promo codes, I just might bail on ‘em.
Hmmm… I still regularly have good luck with promo codes. Typically I buy a 60 minute card and get 80 minutes free on top of that for a total of 140 minutes for $20. However, it is scary using promo codes with Tracfone because they don’t provide any indication that the code is going to work before submitting your order. Luckily, I’ve never had a promo code fail on me yet.
