Holy crap! LogMeIn rules the planet. If you ever need to gain remote access to a computer, look no further. LogMeIn offers FREE remote access that simply works. And I mean WORKS! It powers through routers and firewalls like Ripley through a legion of aliens. Game over, man.
When big P first introduced me to LogMeIn, I didn’t pay much attention. I have a number of computers to maintain remotely, and I had previously set them up with not only Windows built in Remote Desktop, but also Ultr@VNC as a remote access failsafe. I didn’t need another remote access option. But then I realized that LogMeIn is giving away remote access account for FREE. Hmmm… I’ll check it out.
Check it out I did! Not only does it work beyond all expectations, but it is pretty fast as well. And, of course, it is accessible from any computer on the planet. Ultr@VNC and Remote Desktop both require client software.
So now I don’t know what to do. Should I uninstall VNC from all of my computers? I’m not sure. LogMeIn Free offers remote access only… no file transfer or other options. The Pro version gives you File Transfer plus a host of other options. From what I’ve seen so far, the Pro version is well worth the annual fee.
There is another option in the form of GoToMyPC.com. These guys have been marketing HEAVILY in order to gain market share before LogMeIn completely destroys them. If I had to buy stock in one company or the other, I would purchase boat-loads for LogMeIn. They will easily win the web-based remote access wars.

Your post clearly tells that you have not tried RemotePC.
Easily access your office computer or home PC from anywhere in the world, whenever you need it. The remote control operations are fast and all communication is encrypted using 128-bit RC4/SSL to ensure security during remote access. It works behind most firewalls and proxy servers and the host computer does not require a static IP address.
From a remote computer (Host) you can see the desktop of your RemotePC enabled computer (Viewer) and using your remote computer’s keyboard and mouse launch applications and edit documents. Transfer of files and folders with RemotePC is very easy.
For small businesses, which frequently require remote access to their office PCs, RemotePC has a plan that allows access up to 25 computers, all within a single administrative account. With Steve
Nice spam comment. But I will indulge.
Here’s why RemotePC won’t win the remote access wars: “Remote Access – full and thin client – Integrated” Whaaaaa? End of story.
The RemotePC website is obviously created by a company who doesn’t think they need to hire a marketing firm. I know. I’ve been in companies like that. When developers write their own website they are overly verbose and overly technical. RemotePC’s website will scare off anyone in the common marketplace. Heck, it scares me and I’m a software developer.
I don’t care if your software is better or faster, or more secure. I’ll never try it because it doesn’t appear friendly to me. It feels more like work.
Oh, and one more thing… LogMeIn gives you remote access for FREE. Hello!
Steve,
That spammer’s a clown. I found this site while searching for info and reviews about Logmein and I gotta say I agree with you: logmein rocks. PS: I love the banner on the top of the site. If only they actually made mario posters like that!
You can use TTVNC as a relay server to connect 2 pcs behind firwall
